Moku Desk Fan

A desk fan is a simple product that has been mass-produced in various shapes and materials. When I approached this project I tried to think about how this household item can be elevated and become more meaningful to the end-user. By incorporating crafts and natural materials I hoped to make the cold desk fan feel less like a disregarded functional product, and more like a piece that has tradition, craft, and sophistication behind it. By using CAD programs a a joint system was developed that would
extruded wooden beams to be used, and create a precise and intricate wooden lattice.
This lattice will act as the fan’s net, thus answering a functional demand, but more importantly, it will contribute to a natural and more personal look, creating a product that looks as if it was produced both at a factory and under the hands of a craftsperson.
