Kawa-Tsugi
'Kawatsugi’ 革継ぎ (meaning 'leather repair' in Japanese), is a technique that uses leather, rather than using urushi lacquer to repair broken pottery, offering a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese craft of kintsugi.
Each piece is repaired with the meticulous care of fine leathercraft, with every crack addressed through a unique solution that draws on the techniques and design language of leatherwork to create functional repairs for broken ceramics.
This work continues my exploration of over several years into the intersection of ceramics and leather, seeking ways to bring these two materials into dialogue.
